Updated October 12, 2026
The futures market runs nearly around the clock during the week. Exact hours vary by product, but most follow the standard CME session.
Standard session (most products)
- Opens Sunday at 6:00 PM ET.
- Closes Friday at 5:00 PM ET.
- Daily maintenance break from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM ET, Monday to Thursday.
That is almost 23 hours of trading each day during the week.
Trading days follow the session, not the calendar
Each trading day runs from 5:00 PM ET to 5:00 PM ET. This is why your drawdown is measured at the end of the session, and why a “trading day” for the minimum-days rule follows the session close.
Weekends
The market is closed over the weekend, and no positions can be held through it — open positions are flattened before the Friday close.
Product differences
Some products (for example certain agricultural or interest-rate futures) have their own shorter sessions. Always check the hours of the specific contract you trade.
